"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"

Firstly, the song in my title has been stuck in my head all month. Secondly, I wish Christmas happened more than once a year. I couldn't ask for anything better than being surrounded by loved ones, eating glorious food, sipping on champagne, exchanging gifts and generally being happy and enjoying life. Thirdly, this Christmas was my favourite yet.

Christmas eve kicked off at my boyfriend's house, where we munched on cheese, chocolate, fruit, salad and even a sushi platter with his family. Afterwards we sat around the lounge room exchanging gifts, sipping on vino and telling stories. Simple, yet so much fun.

This year I bought a baby tree and decked it out with silver baubles (the love hearts and bells were my faves) and pearl adorned fairy lights. I wanted to take a pretty photo of it, but it devastatingly fell on top of me while I was placing presents underneath it and all of my decorating efforts were put to waste. Therefore, here is the half arsed recovery version. Tragic, I know.

The next morning, we hit the road en route to Mum's place for her annual Christmas lunch. She had prepared a feast for my sister and I, our boyfriends and her partner's family. Despite the fact I'm 22 and my sister is 20, Mum still insists on giving us Santa presents as well as her own. She's awesome.

After starting the day with champagne and strawberries alongside various nibbles, lunch was served. I swooned over all the fresh salads, which included:
  • Spinach, roasted pumpkin and cashew salad
  • Green bean salad with cherry tomatoes, toasted pine nuts and feta
  • Broad bean, snow pea and buffalo mozzarella salad with lemon, olive oil, mint and chives
  • Curried rice salad
  • Potato and egg salad
  • Greek salad
  • Layered garden salad
Meats were separated from the salads to cater to the omnivores.

My sister hitting up some kind of vodka concoction.

My plate.

Presents. So spoilt!

We stayed long into the evening grazing on cheese and wine outside, before cabbing home to fall into deep food comas.

However you choose to celebrate this time of the year, I hope you've all had a chance to kick your heels up and enjoy it wholeheartedly.

Bring on 2012! Much love. X
